Mexico City, Mexico, 1/2 real, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer R (Gothic), very rare, NGC VF 30, ex-Potomac Collection (stated on label). Nesmith-unl; Cal-41; S-M1; KM-6. 1.62 grams. An exceptional example of a very rare denomination within the first emissions from the Mexico City mint in 1536 using Gothic punches brought from Spain, with full legends and inner details, no doubling or corrosion, well centered, and lovely toning all over, in fact the best example of this type we have ever handled and essential for the avid collector. NGC #4762849-005. From the Potomac Collection and pedigreed to Superior auction of December 1972, with original lot-tag #2204.
