MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, Philip V, assayer not visible (L, 1702-5), very odd shape, ex-Hubbard. S-M21a; KM-47; Cal-Type 170. 26.48 grams. Basically a 2½"-long thin rectangle with ½" protrusion on one side in middle (with old hole there), mostly flat and weak (toned VG) yet with remarkably bold PHILIP(PVS) and denomination 8, plus one full castle and lion of a distinctive pre-assayer J style, very eye-catching and interesting. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection, with his tag.
