BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip III, assayer Q/C, rare, ex-Sellschopp (Plate), Grunthal-Sellschopp Plate, Paoletti Plate. S-P16; KM-10; Cal-914. 27.12 grams. Broad, somewhat oblong flan with parts of legend bold, including king's name PHYLYPVS, also full P•Q with traces of previous assayer C under the Q, full shield and cross but centrally weak due to flan concavity, Fine overall, elegantly toned and highly pedigreed. Pedigreed to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, with original lot-tag 603) and Plate Coin 365 in his book Las acuñaciones de las cecas de Lima, La Plata y Potosí 1568-1651 (1971), also Plate Coin 405 on page 166 of Grunthal-Sellschopp's The Coinage of Peru (1978), and Plate Coin 132 on page 103 of Paoletti's 8 Reales Cobs of Potosí (2016).
