BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip III, assayer M/Q, quadrants of cross transposed, rare, ex-Sellschopp (Plate), Grunthal-Sellschopp Plate. S-P18; KM-unl (10 for type); Cal-unl (Type 164). 27.24 grams. Crudely unevenly thick flan with much central weakness in the otherwise full shield and cross, the nearly full crown well detailed on the other hand, and with clear M/Q assayer, king's ordinal III, also full lion above castle in left half of cross, overall Fine with verdigris and brown toning/sediment, desirable pedigree. Pedigreed to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, with original lot-tag 607) and Plate Coin 374 in his book Las acuñaciones de las cecas de Lima, La Plata y Potosí 1568-1651 (1971), also Plate Coin 410 on page 167 of Grunthal-Sellschopp's The Coinage of Peru (1978).
