Wooden domino (five | five), ex-Royal Charter (1859). 9 grams. 1½" x ¾" x 1/8". Typical rectangular-shaped piece with each end containing five spots (or pips or dots), reddish brown encrustation nestled inside, the ends separated by a dividing line. The back is plain wood, a light brown all over. The steamer Royal Charter, built in 1855, sank near Anglesey, Wales, during a storm on October 2, 1859, while finishing a voyage from Melbourne, Australia, to Liverpool, England. Many passengers were gold miners traveling with their cargo of gold coins and Australian gold nuggets. Of the nearly 470 passengers and crew, only 39 survived. From the Royal Charter (1859), with certificate from the salvors and book Life and Death on the 'Royal Charter', by Chris and Lesley Holden (2009).
