VENEZUELA (struck in Potosí), uniface white-metal star medal, no date (1813-19), LIBERTADOR DE BENEZUELA [sic], very rare. Rosa-43; Fonrobert-7927 var. 13.92 grams. 35 mm. An uncut example of the military star decoration shown in Rosa for the Order of the Liberators of Venezuela (created in 1813), consisting of a seven-point star design around central raised medallion that says LIBER / TADOR / DE / BENE / ZUELA, the other side reserved for the name of the recipient. Fonrobert's example shows a combination with a later "obverse" bearing the bust of Simón Bolívar inside SIMON BOLIVAR • LIBERTADOR in central medallion, and while multiple examples of that version are known, this is the first example we have seen of what is pictured in Rosa (but uncut, with another uncut example in silver also reported). Lustrous AU+ with hairlines, punchmark at bottom, XRF-tested at 73.61% tin and 24.33% lead.
