(VENEZUELA) NICARAGUA, brass ¼ real token, no date, Isidro Olivares / El Oazis, PCGS MS64, finest and only example in PCGS census. Rulau-Ven83; Stohr-F94. Obverse with JSIDRO / OLIVARES above a cluster of four diamonds; reverse with EL / OAZIS / UN / CUARTILLO; plain edge. Bright and lustrous brass color with faint rainbow tones, so choice that we believe it was either a sample or specimen strike. In 1965, numismatist Tomás Stohr mistakenly catalogued this issue as a Venezuelan token in his well-known publication Venezuela Numismática, but later research and cataloging by experts such as Fauver corrected the attribution to Nicaragua.
