VENEZUELA, 1 peso, 27-8-1811, serial F. 97 75969, block T. 76, PMG VF 30. Pick-4; Rosenman-1. Very nice example of the highest denomination printed for the first issue of Venezuela paper money authorized by law of 27 August 1811. The independent First Republic of Venezuela had been declared just a month prior on July 5th. A central vignette featuring an anchor and tree between sailing ships bears the warning PENA DE MUERTE AL FALSIFICADOR "Death Penalty to Counterfeit" with signatures of Bartolomé Blandin, Juan Germán Roscio, and Martín Tovar Ponte around it. A very eye-appealing example of this very rare type with modest circulation wear, boldly inked design plus clear serial numbers, only a few tiny pinholes at center to note.
