USA, silver certificate, $1, series 1928B, serial I77574360B, Woods-Mills, very rare, ex-Malone. Friedberg-1602. With case: 12-1/2" x 8-1/4" x 2". This is the first "funnyback" we have seen from the Andrea Doria and perhaps the only one recovered. By the time of the sinking, this note would have been in circulation for 33 to 34 years, a long time for a $1 note! Some pre-sinking handling is noted with a vertical fold in the center while ocean water degradation and staining is confined mostly to the left side. Curiously, the serial number and seal of a post-1935 silver certificate has transferred onto the back, likely from being bundled and submerged together in the safe. With original display box, salvager's certificate, and booklet. Pedigreed to the collection of diver Bart Malone, past curator of the Museum of New Jersey Maritime History. Recovered from: Andrea Doria, sunk in 1956 off Massachusetts
