UNITED STATES, clump of eight Seated Liberty silver half dollars, very rare provenance. 104.60 grams. roughly 2½" x 1¼". Interesting "fallen stack" of coins as originally found on the wreck with heavy rusty encrustation and eight darkened half dollars, one of which is an arrows-at-date type while another bears a New Orleans mintmark. There are several impressions of other coins around the sides of the clump, illustrating how the wreck site was covered in piles of coins. Overall a rare artifact from this wreck as most coins were cleaned up, slabbed, and sold individually. Recovered from: S.S. Republic, sunk in 1865 off Georgia
