UNITED STATES, San Francisco mint, gold Coronet Liberty Head double eagle ($20), 1857-S, 20E broken A, PCGS AU58 (S.S. Central America Gold Foil Label). KM-74.1. Beautiful and richly toned example of this popular "Ship of Gold" double eagle with nice details across Liberty and the eagle, housed in the original gold foil label from the first salvage operation, with a few spots of vivid toning under the eagle (occasionally seen on gold coins recovered from this wreck) and minor bagmarks but little to no indication of wear as a then-freshly minted coin when the S.S. Central America went down. Recovered from: S.S. Central America, sunk in 1857 off North Carolina
