UNITED STATES, San Francisco mint, gold $20 Coronet Liberty "double eagle," 1857-S, no serif, right S, PCGS AU58 (in large SS Central America "Ship of Gold" holder with pinch of California gold dust), in special presentation case. Brilliant and beautiful piece with perhaps just enough surface friction to call it AU58 yet with the eye appeal of something higher. Radiant cartwheel luster shines across both sides and its strike is particularly strong. Housed in a special PCGS slab with a pinch of gold (about 1.5 grams) from the shipwreck, the label hand-signed by chief scientist Bob Evans, also with promotional cardboard box and certificate from PCGS. With original certificate. Recovered from: S.S. Central America, sunk in 1857 off North Carolina
