UNITED STATES, Philadelphia, merchant token, Thomas Wildes (pewterer from Philadelphia), crowned-X countermark on a half cent of 1833, rare. Brunk-44560. 5.34 grams. Thomas Wildes worked as a pewterer in Philadelphia from 1829 to 1833, then moved to New York City and operated there from 1834 to at least 1855. Brunk notes that just five examples of this countermark are known to exist. Boldly struck countermark on an XF host coin, chocolate brown color throughout.
