UNITED STATES, New Orleans mint, three-coin "three governments" S.S. Republic shipwreck half dollar boxed set: United States Issue, 1860-O, NGC Shipwreck Effect; Louisiana Issue, 1861-O, Die W-04, NGC Shipwreck Effect (C) UNC; Confederate States Issue, 1861-O, Die W-13, NGC Shipwreck Effect (B) UNC. Scarce set in a tasteful display case made to illustrate the three different governments that struck coins at the New Orleans Mint leading up to and during the Civil War. The United States half, represented with an 1860-O, has a corroded obverse but a choice, Mint State reverse. The Louisiana 1861-O half is a pleasing Mint State piece with faint champagne toning and nice luster (more so on the obverse). The popular Confederate States 1861-O half is choice with sharp Mint State details and ample luster throughout with only minor saltwater spotting in the left field of the obverse. Housed in boxed wooden case with salvager's certificate and documentary DVD. Recovered from: S.S. Republic, sunk in 1865 off Georgia
