Tobago, twopence-farthing, ca. 1798, incuse TB/o countermark on a French colonial copper crowned-C stampee (ca. 1763) on a French 2 sols of 1749, Vlack Plate Coin. Vlack-444 (this coin); Prid-3; KM-6. 1.75 grams. This is the proper countermark (not just a TB with o added later to increase the value of a "black dogg" to that of a stampee type, per Pridmore) and host with full value of 2-1/4d, although the host is listed in Vlack as "Birmingham sous marques" (hence a contemporary counterfeit), the countermark a bold full XF and the host VG with full legends on countermark side and traces of crowned-C (disturbed by the countermark) on the other side. Plate Coin in An Illustrated Catalogue of The French Billon Coinage in the Americas (2004), by Robert A. Vlack, pedigreed to the Stack's auction of January 2008 (lot #5501).
