The Quicksilver Galleons, by Pedro J. Borrell B., undated (1983), signed by Captain Tracy Bowden (who appears on the cover). 8½" x 7½". This rare book is the quintessential reference on the shipwrecks Guadalupe and Tolosa, sunk off the Dominican Republic in 1724 and salvaged by Tracy Bowden and his team in the late 1970s, the wrecks nicknamed "The Quicksilver Galleons" for the fact that they were carrying a cargo of mercury destined for the colonial mints to extract pure gold from ore. Almost every page features coins and/or artifacts from these wrecks, and the full-color cover features an underwater photo of the Captain himself pouring mercury from a bottle into a plate on the actual shipwreck site of the Tolosa. New condition, 122 pp., soft cover, black-and-white photos, Library of Congress number 84-125863.
