Tegucigalpa, Honduras (under Mexican Empire), 2 reales, (1823)MP, Iturbide issue, very rare, NGC Fine details / holed. KM-12.1. A crude but elusive type with eagle on cactus (symbolic of Mexico) flanked by assayer and denomination on obverse, cross-lions-castles with legend reading TEGVSIGALPA L'A 1823 on reverse (the date not visible on this example), holed near edge like most, deeply toned. We could find only two other examples that have entered the market in the past decade, despite the recent influx from the Richard Stuart collection, which seems to support KM's statement of "6-7 known." NGC #2833732-002.
