Spanish silver "Cross Caravaca" bearing semi-precious stones, with original prayer book, 18th–19th century. 83 grams (cross)
. cross is 5" x 2¼", book is 4¼" x 3" x ½". Solid silver, mounted with natural semi-precious stones on one side, a large and important devotional piece, accompanied by a rare small octavo booklet of 176 pages: "Brief Compendium of Mysterious Prayers..." against all kinds of evils, to be recited to the "Cruz de Carabaca" [sic].

The Caravaca cross, named after the Spanish town of Caravaca de la Cruz, where legend tells of its miraculous appearance in the 13th century, is one of the most revered devotional symbols of Spain and the New World. Its distinctive double crossbar, sometimes flanked by angels, signified divine protection, and silver examples with applied stones like this were treasured as powerful talismans, often paired with prayer books such as the one offered here.
