Spanish colonial silver spoon, probably 1550s to 1590, marked "Sevilla," hindsfoot-pattern handle, very rare. 33.81 grams, 6" long. Important early Spanish spoon with broad, shallow bowl, a curved-then-straight handle ending in a hoof known as a "pied de biche," and many silversmith markings on the back of the bowl including "Sevilla" and what looks like "ANTOrIOS", in addition to a zigzag test mark. A well-manufactured, well-preserved and hard-to-find bit of history.
