Spanish-American War in Cuba, letter by Antonio Maceo (hand-signed with Masonic symbol of 3 dots in a triangle pattern), dated August 15, 1876, very rare. 6" x 4-1/4". Issued at the General Headquarters of Las Laras, this letter authorizes citizen Cirilo Moya to keep in his possession a beast of burden for the maintenance of his family. Apparently most Cuban rebel leaders like Maceo were Freemasons, as evidenced by the symbol used on this small but important letter. Nice condition with only light folds, later comments penciled at bottom.
