South Carolina, $90 (or 146 pounds, 5 shillings), Feb. 9, 1779, serial 1743, Hercules and Nemean Lion vignette, PMG Choice XF 45. FR-SC-158. Very popular type with a bold, intricate depiction on the reverse of Hercules subduing the Nemean lion (the first of his twelve labors) engraved by Thomas Coram. The obverse design is likewise well designed and refined; the motto under the armored spearman reads ARMIS CONCURRITE CAMPO ("Assemble the field of arms"). Wide margins, great paper quality and color with a single vertical fold for the grade but with the overall eye appeal of an AU example, very tough to find problem-free like this. PMG #8060754-007.
