Small silver "plata corriente" piece cut from a "splash" ingot with partial tax stamp, 30.0 grams, ex-Ponte. 30.05 grams. Roughly 1¼" x 1-1/8". Triangular piece with one side the straight(ish) outer edge of the original ingot, the thicker broken edges harboring light sediment, one side blank but the other showing a partial circular tax stamp without any visible lettering, desirable as more or less the size of an 8 reales created at a time (mid-1500s) when larger silver coins were scarce in the colonies. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and Sedwick Auction 8, with original lot-tag 1558.
