Silver "splash" ingot, 1028 grams, marked with fineness IIU CCC X L (2340/2400, 97.5% fine) and two crowned-C tax stamps, ex-"Golden Fleece Wreck" (ca. 1550). 5" in diameter and up to 1" thick. Typical shape (flat and round) but with much bolder marks than usual (deeply impressed and not corroded), the fineness divided into four incuse boxes with raised letters and the circular crowned-C tax stamps for Charles I grouped around the fineness, part of edge flattened and clipped for the assayer's "bite," somewhat darkly toned but clearly a premium ingot for this wreck. From the "Golden Fleece Wreck" (ca. 1550), pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 4, lot 137, with Sedwick photo-certificate.
