Silver proof pattern for Popayan, Colombia, 8 reales, 1849, plain edge, medal axis, rare, NGC PF 64, finest known in NGC census. Restrepo-unl (cf. 64, p. 172); KM-Pn21. 21.01 grams; 34mm. Sharp strike, beautifully toned over strong luster with minimal marks, numerically superior to the Eldorado examples in PCGS SP62 that hammered for as much as $9500 in 2018. Restrepo calls this type lettered edge (and only Bogota) in error, as all examples we have seen (from both mints) are plain edge. NGC #5931969-014. Pedigreed to the Nueva Granada collection (stated on label). Note: The photo for this lot was switched with lot 886 in the printed catalog (corrected here).
