Seville, Spain, gold cob 2 escudos, 161(?) G, PCGS AU55 / Atocha #98A-56809. Cal-197; KM-20. 6.67 grams. Bold full S-G and 16 of date (rare to see any part of a date on these), also full shield and cross but the latter struck from very rusty die, with area of light encrustation in periphery, some luster, interesting non-round shape. Gold cobs from the Atocha are very rare (only a fraction were found compared to the hundreds of thousands of silver coins) and always desirable with official Fisher certification, especially in this year of the 400th anniversary of the sinking of the 1622 Fleet, all the more so as numismatically certified by PCGS. PCGS #44979479. With Fisher tag and photo-certificate 98A-56809. From: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida.
