Seville, Spain, cob 4 escudos, (1)689/8/7M, rare, NGC MS 61, finest and only example in NGC census. Cal-954; KM-58.1. 13.45 grams. Good full shield and cross, both with flatness to each side, the latter off-center just enough to allow the last three digits of the date to be fully visible, the final digit clearly a 9 (label says only 1689) with underdigits that to our eyes seem to be clearly 8/7, yet Spanish references call them the less-logical (and not as visually supported) 7/5, perhaps due to a purported die-match with a known 1685 (although we've never seen one), in any case quite rare and desirable, especially in choice grade (surfaces somewhat grainy, as made). NGC #4337097-009.
