Segovia, Spain, gold milled 8 escudos, Charles II, 1687/3 BR, very rare, NGC UNC details / mount removed, repaired. Cal-1001; KM-197. 26.73 grams; 34mm diameter. Typically choice strike on a broad flan (beyond the design) with much luster, well preserved save for some marks and repairs on obverse, a very rare and popular type, typically made to order in just certain dates, reminiscent of Mexican Royals in appearance, with gaps in dates (like 1684-86, in this case) when not requisitioned, the dies re-used accordingly. This second type under Charles II is typically referred to as "sin escusion" for lacking the Portuguese escutcheon in the upper half of the shield, but in fact it is actually there, just very faint and hidden by the rest of the details.
