Section of ship's wood with teredo worms, ex-Concepción (1641). 776 grams total. Roughly 11" x 5" x 2½". A marine clam, the teredo novalis would bore into ship's wood producing tunnels which then weakened the vessel's structure. This piece bears several examples of such shipworms in a small piece of wood (unconserved), attractive but fragile. From the Concepción (1641), with original certificate from Captain Tracy Bowden through his contract with the Dominican Republic, and accompanied by the July 1996 issue of National Geographic signed by Captain Tracy Bowden on his article "Gleaning Treasure from the Silver Bank."
