Section of an iron canister-shot with many lead balls, ex-pirate ship Golden Fleece (1686). 598 grams total. roughly 5" x 3" x 3". Probably originally a cylindrical stack of small balls or grapeshot with a metal plate on either end, which, when shot from a cannon, would spread out and hit targets over a wide area, here simply a dark agglomeration of many small 5/8" diameter balls, spiky pieces of wood, and imprint from a cloth that likely covered or contained the whole piece. From the pirate ship Golden Fleece (1686), with original certificate from Captain Tracy Bowden through his contract with the Dominican Republic.
