Santa Fe de Bogota, Colombia, cob 8 reales, 1622A, with pomegranate in shield, rare, Grade 3. Restrepo-M42.1; S-C2; KM-3.2; CT-251. 22.21 grams. Bold 22 of date outside of full cross-lions-castles with old scrape mark to right, good full shield with bold assayer A to right, light surface corrosion all over, deeply toned. With Fisher tag and certificate #109169, pedigreed to our Auction #3, with original lot-tag #122. Recovered from: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida NOTE: New research by Jorge Proctor has shown that this issue had to have been struck in Santa Fe de Bogota instead of Cartagena (printed catalog shows the latter, as do the numismatic references).
