San Jose, Costa Rica, Banco de La Union, 25 pesos specimen, 1-5-1889, series A, PMG Choice UNC 63 EPQ. SCWPM-S225s. Three POCs. The Banco de La Union, founded in 1877, was renamed the Banco de Costa Rica in 1890 and continues to operate to this day. This beautiful note is dated a year prior to the name change and is a prime example of the high quality, artistic work the ABNCo did. One of just three in the PMG census with two others in 64 without the EPQ designation. While specimens of the lower denominations in this series have come up on the market from time to time, the 25 pesos remains excessively rare. Clearly choice with vibrant ink colors and wonderful paper quality, no problems such as pinholes or mounting that are found on other Banco de la Union specimens. PMG #8059360-001.
