SWEDEN, Avesta mint, copper ½ daler "plate money," Karl XII, 1715, with 1718-dated Type A countermark (Gothenburg) near edge. KM-PM32. 303 grams. Roughly 4" x 3¾". Choice and rare piece from this wreck as the first example that we have offered at auction with a clear Gothenburg countermark, most of the stamps quite bold with saltwater corrosion mostly confined to the edges and back side. Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from: Nicobar, sunk in 1783 off South Africa
