SPAIN, Segovia, milled 8 reales, Philip IV, 1651 I/R, vertical mintmark with five arches, unique, NGC XF 45. Cal-unl (Type 345); KM-111. Typically broad flan (extending past the outer borders) with choice full details, attractively toned over natural surfaces, with strong eye appeal for the grade. The date 1651 appears to have something under the 5—possibly a 3 but certainly not a 4—while the assayer I is clearly punched over a partially erased R, an unlisted combination in references.

In addition to cobs, mainland Spanish production was increased in milled coins struck by roller press at the Real Ingenio in Segovia due to the need for new coinage following the Potosí mint scandal, making for coins like this that combine historical rarity with technical excellence in choice preservation.
