SPAIN, Segovia, milled 2 reales, Philip IV, 1652 with 5/2, assayer BR in monogram, rare. Cal-960; KM-93.1. 6.31 grams. Choice XF details with toning and sediment on fields, all details clear, the cross side struck slightly off-center. This coin is Exhibit A in the case for stating that the Real Ingenio at Segovia was called upon to increase production following the Potosí mint scandal, as the reverse was modified from a 1620s die for what is basically a one-year emergency issue in 1652.
