SPAIN, Segovia, cob 8 reales, Philip IV, 1659 M, NGC MS 62, finest known in NGC census, ex-Casandra. Cal-1580. 27.23 grams. Thick and sharply seven-sided flan with superb luster and very bold strike, including choice full crown and shield with large (re-punched) 8 to right inside bold king's name PHILIPVS, aqueduct mintmark to left above weak but certain assayer M, beautifully complete cross-and-tressure with full 16 and bottom half of 59 of date with the 5 punched over a 2 (since this is the first date after a 1620s series), unique in this top grade (next finest being AU 53, although the previous lot might tie with this one if re-done by NGC). NGC #8444886-003. Pedigreed to the Casandra Collection (stated on label).
