SPAIN, Burgos, cob 8 reales, Philip IV, 1651 BR, rare, NGC AU 53. Cal-1228; KM-134.1. 27.75 grams. Crudely rectangular flan (more like a Mexican cob) with partially ragged edge (as made), dark toning all over, full cross and shield, significantly with the date, mintmark, and assayer all very clear, hence a great example of an interesting episode in Spanish numismatic history when older mints (like Burgos) were re-opened in order to handle the massive re-coining of recalled silver after the Potosí mint scandal.
