SPAIN, Burgos, 8 reales, Ferdinand-Isabel, 8-arc flanking shield, VIII-8-B on reverse, extremely rare. López de la Fuente-I1.2; Cal-572. 17.50 grams. Crisp full interior details with faintly discernible 8 to left and arc to right of shield (the arc for assayer Francisco de Segovia, 1555-66, hence actually under Philip II but in design and names of Ferdinand and Isabel), bold B and 8 on reverse (the additional denomination VIII too weak to see) corresponding to the rare Burgos mint, but with significant pieces of edge missing, first we have handled and of course particularly rare as from a shipwreck. Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from: Santiago, sunk in 1585 off Bassas da India in the Indian Ocean
