Roman Republic, silver denarius, moneyer Man. Acilius Glabrio, 49 BC. Cr 442/1a; Syd 922; RSC Acilia 8. 3.9 grams. Laureate head of Salus, right, with SALVTIS behind, on obverse. Valetudo (Salus) standing, left, leaning against column and holding serpent with MN ACILIVS, right, and III VIR VALETV, left, on reverse. The Acilia gens claimed to have introduced the first physician to Rome. Choice, rainbow-toned XF+, slightly off-center obverse but quite lovely in color and preservation.
