Roman Republic, AR denarius, M. Herennius, 108-107 BC, Rome mint. Herennia 1a; BMC 1258-85; Syd. 567; Craw. 308/1b. 3.9 grams. Diademed head of Pietas right / Amphinomus carrying his father right; control-mark E to right. UNC with hints of iridescent toning on reverse, much eye appeal. "This type recalls the story of the brothers Amphinomus and Anapias of Catana, who at the eruption of Mount Etna, saved the lives of their parents by carrying them to safety on their shoulders."
