Rare green-glass "tear jar," rare. 20.3 grams, 4" tall. With very tall, narrow neck with handle on side and wide, flat base, this odd-looking vase-like container in light-green glass had an equally odd purpose: Hired mourners would carry it to funerals and shed tears into it to give to the bereaved as a sort of memorial. Unfortunately the fragile neck is broken off right where it meets the base, but otherwise it is intact and beautifully encrusted with bits of coral. From the Capitana El Rubí and pedigreed to Art McKee's Sunken Treasure Museum, with certificate.
