Quito, Ecuador, large oval uniface silver military decoration commemorating the liberation of Quito in 1822 (Pichincha), very rare. Historia de los Premios Militares, Vol. III (1908), pages 84-85. Also shown in South American Decorations and War Medals by Gillingham (1932), plate II (page 148). 20.18 grams 1-3/4" x 1-1/2". A choice-condition piece (toned Mint State) with serrated edge design (24 sharp points) and symbolic design in center showing radiant sunface over emblems of Colombia, Peru and Argentina around the words A LOS LIBERTADORES DE QUITO, with RENA SOL PERU ("the sun of Peru reborn") in exergue.
