Quito, Ecuador, 2 reales, 1837 FP, transposed legends, rare, NGC AU 53, finest known in NGC census, ex-Lissner, ex-Wolfson. Seppa/Anderson-49; KM-21. Good strike with nearly full rims, traces of luster around details, but what really hits you are the big splashes of coppery toning, the coin described in Lissner (when it was AU 50) as "[the] only coin of this KM number ever graded by NGC" but now at the top of nine entries for this date (still the only listing for KM-21, with obverse legend on reverse and vice versa). Pedigreed to the R.L. Lissner Collection (stated on label, St. James's / CNG / Teller auction of August 2014, lot 1633), and to the Floyd E. Wolfson Collection (Superior auction of June 1975, lot 2062). Please use this link to verify the certification number
