Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales Royal (galano), 1726 Y, Louis I, very rare, NGC XF details / holed. S-P43b; KM-R35; Cal-45. (Weight not specified.) Just as the Rincon 8R is the pinnacle of the shield-type series (see lot 687), the Louis I 8R Royal is the top trophy of the pillars-and-waves series (not counting the even-rarer Hearts), and this example is a choice one, with bold full details and contrasting toning all over (no doubling), including a complete LVIS PRIMERO in legend, on a broader flan than and clearly superior to Lazaro 307 (a die-match, rated R3), with crude hole at bottom of cross / top of pillars (coin-aligned), arguably the nicest example to hit the market in many years.
