Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, Philip III, assayer T, quadrants of cross transposed, contemporary test-cuts(?) in edge, Grade 2. S-P21; KM-10. 24.9 grams. We have never seen anything like this before from the Atocha: The edge of the coin from about 5 to 7 o'clock below the shield bears curved slits on both sides that we tentatively conclude are test-cuts from the 1600s, and it is a decent coin, too, with good full shield and cross, silvery but with spots of light corrosion only, however underweight and not round so probably part of edge lost to corrosion. With original Fisher certificate #190725. From: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida
