Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, (1650-1) O, with crowned-backwards L (Mastalir L2aa) countermark on cross, rare. S-P35; KM-19b; Cal-Type 327. 15.27 grams. Bold full cross and full shield despite heavy corrosion and loss on edge (oblong shape as a result), darkly toned and cracked, the all-important backwards-L countermark nearly full and clear. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection of Countermarked Potosi Cobs, with Sedwick certificate from 2008. Recovered from: Maravillas, sunk in 1656 off Grand Bahama Island
