Potosi, Bolivia, cob 4 reales, Philip IV, assayer TR(?), debased and underweight, rare. KM-17a. 8.9 grams. This coin is a classic "rochuna," a fraudulently underweight and low-fineness coin (also crudely struck) that was supposed to be recalled and melted in the 1649-1652 mint-scandal investigation (the coins so named for the corrupt mayor Rocha), this example with significant areas of cuprous oxidation over brown surfaces and both the shield and the cross crude and off-center, VG or so for wear.
