Pair of Bogota, Colombia, cob 2 escudos, Philip IV, assayer A below mintmark NR to left, ex-"Mesuno hoard" (ca. 1636), mounted in 18K gold cufflinks. 21.87 grams total. Both with full crosses facing out and clear NR-A mintmark and assayer left of full shields on mounted sides, AU for wear, the links each consisting of a flat bar connected by short, five-link chain to a loop soldered to the back of the coin. Like many "Mesuno hoard" coins, these were mounted in the 1950s, after being given to the consignor's father as collateral for a loan to a Colombian who had acquired them from his own father, presumably not long after the hoard was discovered in the 1930s. From the "Mesuno Hoard," sunk in the Magdalena River near Honda, Colombia, ca. 1636.
