PUERTO RICO (under Spain), Tesorería Nacional, 25 pesos, 4-5-1813, serial 53. Pick-unlisted. About 8¼" x 12¾". A large, uniface fiscal document numbered 34 promising to pay Don Francisco Puig y Gibert the sum of 25 pesos in provisional money one year from the date of May 4, 1813, with interest at an annual rate of 6% (basically a 19th-century promissory note or certificate of deposit), signed by Treasurer Juan Patiño and Accountant José Bacener and countersigned (V.o B.o) by [Alejandro] Ramírez. Rare and important as effectively the first currency of Puerto Rico, issued while Ferdinand VII was king of Spain. Nice AU with great ink color and paper quality, a few small holes in the left margin.
