PUERTO RICO, Jayuya, brass 2 almudes token, no date (early 1900s), Vista Alegre / JRF, extremely rare, ex-Archilla-Diez. Fumero-unl; Archilla-unl. 7.49 grams. Very bold stamps (the JRF for Joaquín Rodríguez Francisco) on dark brass with light oxidation all over but not green like others known (this one professionally conserved), particularly rare this well preserved, no more than six known, missing in Fumero and in Archilla-Diez's published book but listed in the latter's addendum as 846.3 (per his accompanying tag), an important piece for the Puerto Rican specialist.

According to expert Dr. Ovidio Dávila, this token originated at a hacienda owned by Joaquín Rodríguez Francisco named Vista Alegre in the Mameyes Arriba, today a municipality of Jayuya, and it was among a hoard of such pieces in various denominations found ca. 2004 in a cistern in the coffee-growing region of Ciales. The hoard also contained tokens marked Estancia Carmen / ARM for a hacienda owned by Agustín Rodríguez Matta, Joaquín's nephew and a former worker at Hacienda Vista Alegre. The blanks used to make these tokens were made from worn Spanish 5- and 10-céntimos coins of Alfonso XIII, stamped with blacksmith punches. Pedigreed to the Efrain Archilla-Diez Collection.
