PORTUGAL, 870 reis, Maria II, crowned-arms countermark (1834) on a Mexico City, Mexico, bust 8 reales, Ferdinand VII transitional ("armored" bust), 1811 HJ, NGC VF 35 / c/s UNC strong, ex-Hubbard. KM-440.14; Gomes-29.18. Unusually bold and deep countermark on neck of transitional bust of Ferdinand VII, richly toned all over, weak rims with stress cracks near top reverse rim (as made), nice pedigree. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection (stated on label) and to the J. Schulman (Amsterdam) auction of April 1952.
